I loved this book, though I loved her retelling of the Iliad more. I totally agree with you that it's "shallow feminism" but it's a rare piece of popular fiction that I come across that isn't. I didn't think Circe was being portrayed as a feminist hero or even a feminist but as a woman/nymph/goddess breaking free from the constraints of her culture through solitude. The recent book it's most similar to in my mind, is Lauren Groff's _Matrix_ -- another woman exiled to a different world and finding a powerful part of herself within it. Thanks for the good read, Kayla.
