I trust all living writers whose work has been fed into AI to "educate it" are getting paid for their work and again every time the machine uses that knowledge to create other poems, those writers are also being paid. Well, at least the people who developed the technology to exploit the creativity and work of others aren't getting paid. Oh, wait! Anyhow, I agree with you. Poetry only matters because it's people communicating with people. And the process of that communication -- the deep, creative work of the poet and the deep creative work of the reader. Thanks too for mentioning the terrible environmental impact of A.I. (Of course, AI could rebut with " what about the terrible environmental impact of humans" but that would be a different article all together. Thanks so much for this one.)
