Thanks for this, Patsy. It makes me confront my own ambivalence. On one hand, why do women have to become so self-conscious because the world is sexist -- and on the other hand, you're so right -- what we do tells us who we are -- over and over again.

Fascinating that (thank you, Rebecca Solicit) "mansplaining" may be inspired by the pitch and tone of women's voices -- to which I have to say -- who cares how she speaks, jerk face, stop interrupting. I worry that the voice thing will become like dieting -- watch what you eat, watch how you speak -- you know the drill and we will never feel we can just do what we want. You have given me much to meditate on.
